Silver Couching

Only fine metallic threads can be stitched with; #3 and above are couched in place. Silver is usually couched with white or pale grey. Occasionally, couching threads of a different colour are used to alter the appearance of the silver. I have couched a broad line of silver - 3 pairs of #4 - with the pale blue silk to carry the blue throughout the design.

Pretty butterfly!

I am teaching a Japanese embroidery class here this week and going to Bath next week with one of the stitchers. Sorry you couldn't make the class.

We will probably travel up to Oxford one day by train. What do you recommend we see?

And we already had the discussiona about the word "rubber." That's how we got around to "boot," but of course, I have a G-rated blog, so left out the pants and the rubbers :)
