Bronze Paisely – Part One

I have done most of the outlines in one of the three different gold beads but here and there I have added some highlights (using silver beads) or lowlights (using bronze beads).

Each shape is outlined first. I then pick out the details that I wish to keep before filling in the remaining space.

When I added the red beads, I felt that there was not enough contrast between them and the flowers.

I reworked the flowers using the same beads using white thread instead of red.

The flowers do look better with the white thread and I do like the colour change from green to blue round the outside of the paisley motif. With Japanese Bead Embroidery, it's taken me a while to get my head around what colour thread to use and how it affects the look of the beads. For the eyeglass case I was surprised that apart from the black outline, I used white thread throughout . Then on the Poppy Pouch I thought all the bead for couching would be strung on black thread but as instructed by my teacher ,I used white thread for the gold and silver beads and it looked right. I thought white would stand out too much on the black backing fabric - I am using black thread for the couching though.

It is certainly looking good - I especially like the gold and teal around the outside..
